How We Helped Transform CMDB
into a Trusted Source of Truth

What was
the goal?

Transforming ServiceNow CMDB from a passive repository into a governed, reliable, and operationally useful source of truth for configuration and asset-related data.
The Client

Key details

Industry:

Battery Manufacturing / Industrial

Products:

CMDB / Configuration Management

Locations:

Global

Global battery solutions company

Our client is a global company providing lead-acid and lithium-ion battery solutions for automotive and industrial sectors. The organization operates manufacturing and recycling facilities and supports a broad range of applications, from vehicles to telecommunication backup systems.

From Spreadsheet Dependency to CMDB Transformation

What was the challenge?

Before the project, ServiceNow CMDB existed in the client’s environment, but it was not effectively used as a single source of truth. Configuration Item data was outdated, incomplete, and inconsistently maintained. Excel spreadsheets remained the main source for tracking assets and configuration information, creating fragmented data, manual effort, and limited operational value.

The organization needed to improve data quality, remove redundant records, strengthen governance, and prepare the CMDB for better ITSM and ITOM support.

Client's area of presence
Improving CMDB Quality and Governance

How did we help?

SPOC supported the client in improving CMDB and asset-related data quality while preparing the environment for a more trusted configuration management model.

  • Foundation Data Improvement

We worked on improving foundation data quality and cleaning up existing CMDB records to reduce inconsistencies and increase trust in the data.

  • Asset and CI Clean-Up

We removed redundant CIs, deleted hardware assets where needed, disabled their use, and analyzed and cleaned up existing hardware models.

  • Software and Reporting Preparation

We migrated to the SAM foundation and prepared a software reporting mechanism with supporting documentation.

  • Integrations and Visibility Enhancements

We prepared Intune import activities, partially implemented Dell integration for computers, and installed the SPOC dashboard to highlight CMDB and asset-related issues.

What were the results?

The project improved the quality, structure, and visibility of CMDB and asset-related data. The client reduced redundant records, improved hardware model consistency, prepared software reporting capabilities, and gained dashboard-based visibility into CMDB and asset issues.

From Passive Repository to More Trusted Configuration Data

What was the impact?

The implementation helped the client:

Reduce reliance on fragmented Excel-based tracking
Improve CMDB data quality and consistency
Remove redundant and outdated configuration records
Strengthen visibility into CMDB and asset-related issues
Prepare the foundation for future automation, integrations, and CMDB governance
