CMDB

Efficient implementation – a guarantee of success

Efficient implementation – a guarantee of success

When implementing CMDB, it’s important to separate the infrastructure from the business but keep in mind that they will need to cooperate in the future.

IS IT FOR YOU?

These scenarios sound familiar?

Try ServiceNow CMDB:

Improve visibility

You don’t have a reporting capability or a complete picture of all configuration items in your organization, and you need your decisions to be data-driven.

Monitor the system

Your infrastructure monitoring tools do not reflect the impact of the current condition of the infrastructure on the provided services.

Create relationships

Your CMDB lacks connections between configuration elements, and you are aware that they are required to expand your system.

Optimize your database

Keeping the CMDB up-to-date manually takes extra effort and this is why you decide to optimize the process.

Manage efficiently

Managing all configuration items, incident resolution and prevention process becomes more difficult, and you need to improve it.

Keep your data up-to-date

Your CMDB data is out of date or missing and it’s crucial that your database is up-to-date all the time.

Limit the number of incidents

You notice the increased number of incidents and the extended time needed to resolve them, and you want to address it.

Fix the wrong configuration

Your CMBD is not configured properly at the IT infrastructure level, and you need to fix it.

Improve your search

Your CMDB does not allow you to store or easily retrieve the data you require, and you look for much easier searching process.

Manage the information architecture efficiently

Monitor infrastructure and ensure business service continuity and balance thanks to CMDB

I have been working with CMDB at ServiceNow for over 12 years and I know customers find it very complicated.

CMDB is used in nearly all processes. Even if customers don’t need any advanced CMDB functionalities, it’s highly likely that they will do in the future.

The first challenge with CMDB is to fuel the database, and the second is to keep the configuration up-to-date. You should plan these activities carefully from the beginning by separating the infrastructure from the business part but remembering that they must still cooperate with each other.

The more advanced the use of a misconfiguration, the more difficult it is to correct it later. In my opinion it;s definitely the area of platform configuration that should be delegated to experts.

A common misconception is that CMDB aims to store as much data related to your infrastructure and services as possible.

Instead, any data stored in the CMDB should contribute to a service management purpose and become the basis for other ServiceNow modules.

Since it’s always easier said than done, we’re here to help. SPOC will guide you through all stages of implementing a solid CMDB.
